Chandra Observation of SN 2011ht ATel #4062; D. Pooley (Sam Houston State Univ., Eureka Scientific) on behalf of a larger collaboration on 22 Apr 2012; 21:25 UT Credential Certification: dave pooley (dave@mit.edu) Subjects: X-ray, Supernovae As part of our ongoing program to investigate X-ray emission from supernovae with Chandra, we triggered a Chandra ToO observation of the unusual Type IIn supernova 2011ht (CBETs #2851 and #2903; ATels #3690, #3749, and #3895). The observation was taken with the ACIS-S3 instrument; it began on 2012 Mar 24.0 and had an exposure time of 9.8 ksec. We do not detect any X-rays from the location of SN 2011ht. The X-ray emission detected with Swift/XRT in the direction of SN 2011ht (Roming et al., arXiv:1202.4840) is likely not from the supernova, but rather a nearby source about 4.7" to the southeast of SN 2011ht. Our Chandra observation reveals no other sources present within 20" of the position of the supernova and three additional sources between 20" and 45". Preliminary spectral fits of the Chandra source near the position of SN 2011ht indicate a flux of (2.7 +/- 0.8) x 10^-14 erg/cm^2/s [0.5-8 keV], assuming the same spectral parameters given in Roming et al. This is consistent with the X-ray flux reported by Roming et al., supporting the case that the Swift/XRT detected emission is not from SN 2011ht.
