Electronic Telegram No. 1648 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2009E IN NGC 4141 T. Boles, Coddenham, England, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.8) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Jan. 3.058 and 3.921 UT with a 0.35-m reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 12h09m49s.56 +/- 0s.03, Decl. = +58o50'50".3 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0; average of images from the two nights), which is approximately 17".2 east and 6".9 south of the center of NGC 4141. Nothing is present at this position on Boles' images from 2007 May 29 and 2008 Feb. 6 (limiting mag 19.5) or on Digitized Sky Survey plates from 1993 May 11 (limiting red mag 20.5) and 1994 Jan. 16 (limiting blue mag 21.0). Boles notes that this galaxy also produced the type-II supernova 2008X (cf. CBETs 1239, 1300).
