Boles, Coddenham, England, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.6) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Dec. 17.212 and 18.111 UT with a 0.35-m reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 14h20m27s.46, Decl. = +35o11'42".7 (equinox 2000.0), which is approximately 11".9 east and 22".7 north of the center of NGC 5579. Nothing is present at this location on Boles' images from Mar. 6 and June 30 (limiting mag 19.5) or on Digitized Sky Survey images from 1988 Mar. 16 (limiting blue mag 21.0) and 1992 May 1 (limiting red mag 20.5).
